a collaborative community-based project

How to Participate

1 Leave a comment on paragraph 1 3 There are several ways to participate in Digital Humanities Keywords, and we expect that the options will expand as the project develops. Given that, please contact us with your suggestions!

2 Leave a comment on paragraph 2 2 Digital Humanities Keywords makes use of the CommentPress Core plugin for WordPress, which allows multiple users to add comments to text at the paragraph level. This software has been used successfully for a number of open peer review projects, notably Kathleen Fitzpatrick’s Planned Obsolescence, and Writing History in the Digital Age, edited by Jack Dougherty and Kristen Nawrotzki.

3 Leave a comment on paragraph 3 1 As a reader you are invited to actively participate in open peer review by adding comments to any paragraph of text on the site. Click on the paragraph and a window will open up for you to add your comment. Registered users can comment freely; for now, the comments of guest users will be held for moderation the first time that person comments (where “person” is a specific name and email address). We anticipate that the comments—and comments on comments—will serve as a major source of intellectual exchange on this site.

4 Leave a comment on paragraph 4 1 To register, send an email to dhkeywords “at” gmail.com with your preferred username and email address and just a sentence or two explaining who you are.

5 Leave a comment on paragraph 5 1 We don’t know yet if this project will lead to publication, or what form(s) publication might take, because one of the issues we hope to collectively explore is the fixity of text in the digital age. We will preserve versions of essays and associated comments as the authors of keyword essays move closer toward finalizing their work on this site.

Organizing the Project

6 Leave a comment on paragraph 6 1 We are currently creating an advisory/steering committee to finalize some minimal processes for editorial work, and to think about ways to promote involvement in the project. If you are interested in helping out, please let us know! We hope to strike the right balance between open conversation and careful intellectual work while exploring the possibilities for collaboration and open peer review that online writing environments like CommentPress Core allow.

7 Leave a comment on paragraph 7 2 If you have thoughts on the project’s organization, or would like to get involved, please send an email to dhkeywords “at” gmail.com.

Writing an Essay

8 Leave a comment on paragraph 8 1 We invite you to contribute a keyword essay to this site. There is no set length limit, but consider 1500 words, give or take. Illustrations or multimedia are not required, but are welcome. Hyperlinks are encouraged but we’d also like citations for them to help counter the inevitable problems of link rot. In most cases, notes and a list of references will probably be a good idea. If you’re interested—or think you might be—please contact us about essay ideas and setting up a schedule, at dhkeywords “at” gmail.com.
